The Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology occupies a colonial-era wooden house at 61 Main Street, a few minutes' walk from the National Museum. It holds Guyana's principal collections of Indigenous material culture: pottery, basketwork, weapons, tools and ceremonial objects of the Amerindian peoples, together with archaeological material from across the country. The museum is named after Walter Roth, the anthropologist and colonial official who recorded the customs of the Indigenous peoples of the Guianas in the early twentieth century.
